Who We Are
2020-2021 Executive Board
Who We Are
Mark Lewin, MD, is a Professor and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Cardiology, University of Washington School of Medicine/Seattle Children’s Hospital and Director of our Prenatal Diagnosis and Treatment program.
Dr. Lewin previously served as the Director of our Pediatric Echo Lab (2001-2009). He ran an echo telemedicine program with ~1400 echos/year now transmitted from across the Pacific Northwest.
His professional activities include Board member of the Pediatric Council of the American Society of Echocardiography (2005-2007), pediatric representative to the Advocacy Council, American Society of Echocardiography (2007-2010), and chair of the Pediatric Track of the American Society of Echocardiography, 21st Annual Scientific Sessions (2011).
SOPE Vice President
Tim Slesnick, MD, is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine. His clinical focus is non-invasive imaging, both echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR), and he serves as the Director of Pediatric Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging for Emory University.
From a research standpoint, he has an interest in both structural heart disease as well as myocardial assessment. Much of his focus is on advances in echocardiography, such as blood speckle tracking, and in CMR technology, such as non-contrast angiograms, four-dimensional flow velocity imaging, and highly accelerated image acquisition techniques.
Finally, through collaborations with Georgia Tech, his team is working on advanced computational modeling of patient-specific CMR images to allow both surgical planning and long-term prognostication in complex congenital heart defects such as double outlet right ventricle and single ventricle anatomies.
SOPE Sonographer Representative
Bernadette Richards, FASE, RDCS, serves on the SOPE Board of Directors as the sonographer representative. She also serves on the IAC Echocardiography Board of Directors as a representative of the Society of Pediatric Echocardiography (SOPE).
Ms. Richards is the Technical Director of the Pediatric Echo Laboratory at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, in Columbus, OH. She is certified as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer in the areas of Adult, Fetal and Pediatric Echocardiography.
Bernadette is also a fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE). Bernadette’s professional interests include echo education and business process improvement.
Beth Feller Printz, MD, PhD is a Professor of Clinical Pediatrics and Adjunct Professor of Radiology at the University of California, San Diego. Her clinical focus is pediatric and congenital echocardiography and cardiac MRI, and she is the former Director of Noninvasive Imaging (Cardiac MRI and Echocardiography) at Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego. Her research interests are in the intersection of non-invasive cardiac imaging and flow dynamics, including computer modeling of blood flow and cardiac function.
Dr. Printz has a longstanding interest in non-invasive cardiac imaging education and mentorship. She is a Fellow of the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) and has been lead for the ASE Committee on Pediatric Echo Lab Productivity (C-PELP) and Echo Lab Directors Task Force, as well as a member of the ASE Research committee. She has also served on the pediatric executive committee and education committee of the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR).
